The second-hand marketplace Members Express Frustration About Sizing Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The platform stated the revised method more closely matches similar services.
They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
