Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
